Story Summary:
Where "Survivor" meets "Gilligan’s Island" in "The
Twilight Zone." Sixteen men and women are stranded on a tropical island–with
an intrusive camera crew and a psychotic producer, where they fight for survival,
TV ratings, and a million dollar prize. The winner is anyone who loves thrill-a-minute
misadventures, gut-busting laughs, and ‘broad’-minded women.
The premise may be familiar, though the contestants are anything but, when
a desperate network owner is hell-bent on blockbuster ratings and casts the show
accordingly. Shannon, a budding novelist and former network employee, falls deeply
in lust with tall, dark, paranoid Ryan, a Kentucky survivalist who is determined
to win. "The course of true love never did run smooth," Shakespeare
said. Even he couldn’t have imagined the road bumps Shannon and Ryan will
encounter en route to love and hot monkey sex.
The women are not only star-crossed, but insect infested and sand crab bitten.
In this irreverent spoof, which focuses on an industry where nothing is as it
seems, and no one can be trusted, Shannon and Ryan pull out all the stops to ‘get
the girl’ – and win the prize. Join them as they discover the best
thing about ‘Paradise’ is each other.
Author Commentary
Over the top, no brakes. That's Castaway. This wild parody of the
television series Survivor that looks at the underbelly of reality TV
and throws caution to the wind. Castaway was written to be read in weekly
installments with the story unfolding just like it would on a television reality
series.
It's brash and bold and pure fun. You’ll either love it or hate it.
Ryan
Daly designed the cover. I love the island photograph and wish it had been featured
more prominently. I keep looking for that very spot for my vacations!
Reader Reviews:
What a wonderful, quirky little tale. It's easy to fall in love with the
squirrels [& they are memorable], but Randi & Mac, plus Mac's family
are
great characters you enjoy spending time with.
She calls it a look inside her mind. I suppose that should be scary, until
I realized how at home I felt in that world.
"LOL" is tossed around easily on the internet, but in this case,
I
literally laughed out loud all along the way. In this, along with
"Castaway", Blayne's gift for humor really shines.

***
Start with the premise of "Survivor", exaggerate character quirks, stir with unbridled passion and finally mix with sardonic humor and you have "Castaway" and I guarantee that these contestants would outshine the real deal and leave you wondering if you could survive. Plenty of parody and good-natured ribbing of stereotypes, this book is another romp through the twisted humor that I love about Blayne Cooper's writing. Ryan Daly just seems to egg her on and the end result is utterly hilarious.
